Marilyn Candids

These candids of Marilyn Monroe were taken shortly before her death in December 1961 by photographer Len Steckler. The negatives of this charming collection had been found recently by Steckler's son who had decided to release them to the public. Marilyn had stopped by Steckler's apartment to visit a mutual friend, poet Carl Sandburg, and graciously allowed the impromptu shoot.

In retrospect these happy images are all the more tragic for what the future held for her.

She is so vital and alive here. Shocking to think she only had another 9 months.
