Book Giveaway: Marlene
I must be honest, I was never drawn to Marlene Dietrich mostly because I didn't know much about her. She always seemed so mysterious! Apparently, that was her unintentional modus operandi. So, I was very excited to have been contacted by publishers Simon and Schuster who have donated a new copy of Marlene's latest biography for a giveaway!!
Marlene by Charlotte Chandler is not your average biography. It is a heavily compacted conversation, if you will. Intense and expansive personal interviews and correspondences bring you into a circle of friendship and secrets all lead and surrounded by the charming and intelligent Marlene Dietrich. The overtone being her struggles between the love and protection of her family, career and German heritage and her detest against Nazi Germany. She was not afraid to do or say anything; conspiracies and intrigue regarding love and death simmer at the surface.
How could someone be so traditional yet be so advanced and ahead of the times? Incredibly smart, glamorous, and fiercely nurturing, she embarked on a film career and role of wife in her own way, often at the shock of others. The cast of players is extensive and impressive as well as the synopsis of her films and the mentors that shaped her life. Svengali-like Josef von Sternberg, Kennedy's Sr. and Jr., Douglas Fairbanks Jr., Billy Wilder, Mae West, John Gilbert, The Royal family, Mercedes de Acosta... It goes on and on. Of course, I immediately bought one to add to my growing library. This is a must read!!
This giveaway is open to all world wide, so if you would like to enter, please email me your name and shipping address. One winner will be drawn at random. Ends Monday June 6 at 12noon EST.
Thank you Amanda!! x
