Mad Men Cosmetics Collection

Via The Hollywood Reporter
Estee Lauder Launches 'Mad Men' Makeup CollectionThe cosmetics giant offers two provocative products that will bring out any woman's inner January Jones or Christina Hendricks.
11:20 AM PST 3/5/2012 by Merle Ginsberg

"There are few televisions shows that have sparked as many promotions -- and had as large an impact on culture, fashion and beauty -- as Mad Men. For the last few years on the red carpet, we've seen a lot of deep red lips (including, most recently, Angelina Jolie at the Oscars), bright red Fire & Ice style fingernails, a lot of wavy hair (Milla Jovavich and Penelope Cruz, also at the 2012 Oscars), and fashion's been packed with bright colors, prints, florals and full skirts and sweater sets. Prada's new spring 2012 collection could have been yanked right off January Jones' Betty Draper character. And the show's costumer Janie Bryant has just released her second MM collection for Banana Republic.

Now this week Estee Lauder's putting out a Mad Men limited edition cosmetics collection to get you in the mood for the show's March 25 premiere. The collection includes two pieces -- a $25 cherry-orange coral, appropriately named Cherry, which happens to be one of the season's hottest colors, and a $40 Evening Rose creme rouge in that's drier than most creme blushes so it stays on and in place exactly where you dap it. It's also a great color for eyelids. The lipstick is less gloss and more matte, without being too dry.

Both are going to be sold on Estee Lauder's website and at Bloomingdale's for a limited time only, and just like the show's characters, they're packaged provocatively: Both come in a white, gold and light blue floral print box with gold fabrics cases on the inside. Will you look like January Jones or Christina Hendricks in these shades? Perhaps, but if nothing else they'll be great for whipping out while sipping a martini."

Ansel Adams Los Angeles, 1940

On assignment for Fortune Magazine, photographer Ansel Adams took these shots of everyday Los Angeles and it's citizens. The whole collection is available online at Los Angeles Public Library, and now the collection will be on display Feb. 18-March 17 at the Los Angeles DRKRM gallery.

Intersection of Wilshire and Robertson Blvds. Notice the guy(s?) on the Coca-Cola billboard? Also amusing is the 4 way stop sign in the middle of the street.

Massive palm trees line a residential street. Looks like Korea Town or maybe the Wilshire district? I recently found out that palm trees are not native to Southern California. The Spanish and Portuguese brought them over from Europe in the early 1900's to give the land a more Mediterranean feel.

Lockheed plant employee parking lot, Burbank. Boy, they just jammed 'em in there, didn't they!

The exterior of the Earl Carroll Theatre. The names!

The original Brown Derby restaurant here on Wilshire, opened in 1926. This location is now a small strip mall, but the dome shape still stands.

Court Flight cable railway, South Broadway in downtown. Built in 1903, this is the smaller of the two cable cars in Los Angeles, the larger being Angel's Flight at Hill St.
