Grey Gardens

Grey Gardens starring Drew Barrymore as "Little" Edith Bouvier Beale and Jessica Lange as "Big" Edith Bouvier Beale was such a touching and bittersweet film; capturing the essence behind the 1975 documentary. Costume designer Cat Thomas had to span the 1920's through the 1970's and did so with a harmonious and humorous eye. Trying to dress characters that were based on true eccentrics~ without turning them in to caricatures~ is crucial not only to believability, but to building a relationship between the character herself and the viewer.

Vivian Baker was Drew Barrymore's makeup artist, no information yet on her hairstylist. Both Drew and Jessica's hair and makeup were relevant to the period and not overdone and retro generic as some period films can be. There was a softness and realness to the grooming which made it second nature and not stereotypical or campy.

Tamela D'Amico- Got A Little Story

Jazz songstress Tamela D'Amico's much anticipated album, Got A Little Story drops Tues. April 14th! The buzz that's been going around is "Timeless, evocative, sexy, and sassy, Tamela D ’Amico is fresh voice for your old favorites. A deconstructed and reinvented classic. The new identity of old school—Sinatra in heels!"

While I agree with this, I must point out that I have seen her perform live many times and she has her own evocative sound and stage presence, not to mention alongside some of the world's best musicians. She blazes her own path while remaining true to the spirit of the jazz and classic standards she sings- no, she owns.

Got A Little Story was a long time in the making, and well worth the wait. Tamela has been performing for a very long time, and having this major label album being released worldwide everywhere will not only add to her skyrocketing success, but bring more attention to this genre of music that we all love. The beautiful music of an era gone by.

If you are a fan of this music, you'll love the line up: "The Gentleman Is A Dope", "Charade", "And I Love Him", "Perfidia", "One For My Baby", "We Are In Love", "When October Goes", "He’s A Tramp", "They All Laughed", "Perfect". ("Perfidia" and "When October Goes" are breathtaking!!)

If you don't want to wait to run to your nearest Barnes & Noble or favorite music store on April 14th, you can pre-order the album here!

Anne as Judy

My new favorite blog, The Kitty Packard Pictorial , has information on the upcoming Judy Garland biopic starring Anne Hathaway in the leading role. Gerald Clarke's biography Get Happy: The Life of Judy Garland will be adapted for stage and screen. I have read this book, and it is a page turner!

Thank You

I want to thank two fellow bloggers. Most recently, non-vintage blog Bostonista awarded me with a "Your Blog Is Fabulous" honor!

A very long time ago, Super Kawaii Mama gifted me with a "Brilliante Weblog" award!

I certainly thank you both for the honor. Both of your blogs are entertaining and well written; I read them faithfully!

Because my blog is vintage only, there are a few non-vintage blogs that I must give a special thank you mention for their support of mine. The aforementioned Bostonista and Beyond Boston Chic. They have been wonderful fellow bloggers and a must read for those who love fashion! I have them bookmarked! These two women have an impeccable sense of style and are dedicated to their craft and point of view. Please visit them and show your love!

(In the future I will probably add a separate link section entitled 'Off Topic' as there are a number of non-vintage blogs and sites that I would like to support as well. Thank you for everyone's patience and understanding that I'm keeping the content vintage only for now.)

Update 5-21-09- I am planning on doing a non-vintage blog journaling my makeup adventures where I can link all my favorite non-vintage fashion sites!

xo Katie

Vogue Italia pt Deux

I just found the complete editorial for this Vogue Italia that I recently posted. A completely captivating story of a silver screen goddess with a Bette Davis gaze. She is an amalgam of the the siren, the ingenue, the diva; the quintessential Star.
