Red Carpet

Original post date May 21, 2008 7:31 AM

Red carpet events are the ultimate showcase for glamour! More and more, actresses are embracing the Old Hollywood Glamour styles in lieu of contemporary couture gowns. Taking risks with fashion cannot compete with a the sure thing of classic glamour of the past.

Most recently at the Metropolitan Museum Of Art Costume Institutes's Gala, Naomi Watts stood out in a ravishing 40's style white gown complete with Veronica Lake curls, dramatic black liner and classic red lips. Note the details~ the art deco star broach, the pleating of the material and of course, the silhouette. This also looks a bit like the famous Marilyn Monroe dress in The Seven Year Itch!

I must also mention from the same event, model Karen Elson and her husband, musician Jack White. She is draped in the most beautiful satin color of bordeaux I have ever seen, with flouncing flowers at the shoulder and beaded bag. Notice the finger waves? Together with his white tie tuxedo, they travel back to a late 20's Valentino film.

Seen at the Cannes Film Festival last week was Spanish actress Paz Vega. She is breathtaking in crimson. The diamond drop necklace and wrist cuff add to the 40's and 50's glamour of this look. The soft hair and again the classic makeup look~ black liner and red lips~ one cannot go wrong.
